Apprentice
Reports to: Stores Supervisor
Location: Belfast
Role Purpose
To support the day-to-day operations of the stores in a plumbing and heating merchant branch, learning all aspects of stock control, order fulfilment, and customer service. This role provides hands-on training, industry knowledge, and the opportunity to develop skills for a long-term career in the plumbing and heating supplies sector.
Key Responsibilities
· Stock Management
· Receive deliveries from suppliers, check goods against delivery notes, and report discrepancies.
· Assist with safe and accurate storage of stock.
· Help carry out regular stock checks and maintain accurate inventory records.
· Order Processing & Picking
· Pick and pack customer orders from stock.
· Prepare goods for collection or delivery.
· Ensure items are handled safely and labelled correctly.
· Customer Service
· Assist trade and retail customers at the trade counter when required.
· Provide basic product information (with training provided).
· Work with colleagues to ensure customers receive prompt and efficient service.
· Health & Safety
· Follow safe working practices in line with company policy.
· Keep the stores area clean, tidy, and hazard-free.
· Use lifting equipment and tools safely after appropriate training.
· Learning & Development
· Gain product knowledge in plumbing, heating, and associated supplies.
· Learn about the merchant business, from purchasing to sales.
Person Specification
· Essential
· Enthusiasm to learn and develop within the plumbing and heating industry.
· Good communication skills.
· Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
· Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
· Willing to work as part of a team.
· Desirable
· Interest in practical or trade-based work.
· Basic IT skills for stock systems.
· A forklift licence (or willingness to train for one).
Training Provided
