Job Description
Pupil Support Assistant
Trinity Academy
Salary: £24,909 - £25,116 (pro-rata for part-time and sessional)
Hours: 30 per week, 39 weeks sessional
Trinity Academy is a school at the heart of a vibrant and diverse community, with a wonderful sense of tradition and a keen eye to the future. Our commitment for every single young person is to build a culture around our values of respect, inclusion and ambition; this for our staff as much as our pupils. The successful candidate will work in direct support of our pupils in the Enhanced Support Base (ESB). This provision supports young people, particularly in S1-3 who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Intellectual Disabilities (ID). It is a base class model of approximately 10 and provides very targeted support to locality children. Children in the base, experience communication and adaptive functioning challenges to learning and in most all cases, present as much younger than they chronologically are. The ESB supports a predictable, nurturing and inclusive environment within our mainstream setting and over time, pupils work to develop the skills to access some mainstream classes as an ESB group or as individuals alongside their mainstream peers. Our ESB staff work creatively, collaboratively, inclusively and adaptably to support an environment that enables these young people to flourish at Trinity Academy.
At Trinity Academy we take partnership working seriously. We work very closely with our associated Primary Schools to ensure a smooth transition into Secondary School and put equal importance on supporting young people into our school as we do in preparing them for the world after school.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
