Job Title: Independent Reviewing Officer / Child Protection Conference Chair
Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Pay Rate: £42 - £45 per hour
Minimum Days in Office: 2 days per week
About the Role:
Suffolk County Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Independent Reviewing Officer / Child Protection Conference Chair to join our safeguarding team. This role is central to the delivery of high-quality safeguarding services for children in care and those subject to child protection plans across the County. As an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO), you will provide leadership and oversight, ensuring that all plans are scrutinised and meet the necessary compliance standards.
You will be instrumental in embedding the Suffolk Signs of Safety and Wellbeing framework, which has proven to enhance practice development, improve family engagement, and boost staff morale and motivation.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and deliver safeguarding services for children in care and those subject to child protection plans across Suffolk.
Lead and champion the Suffolk Signs of Safety and Wellbeing framework, working to improve outcomes for children and families.
Work closely with operational management and provide strategic leadership in safeguarding practices.
Provide regular reports and analysis to directorate management, highlighting key safeguarding issues and trends.
Scrutinise care and child protection plans to ensure they meet required standards and address children's needs.
Ensure compliance with all safeguarding standards and operational requirements.
Act as a Regulation 44 Visitor to Suffolk County Council's children's homes, providing monthly reports on safeguarding effectiveness and home conduct.About You:
To succeed in this role, you will need the following:
A recognised social work qualification and extensive management-level experience in children's safeguarding.
Significant experience working with children in care and in child protection settings.
Strong knowledge of current research and legislation in child protection and safeguarding.
Proven ability to chair meetings effectively across a variety of locations within Suffolk and beyond.Additional Information:
This role requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the office, with travel across Suffolk and occasional wider locations as necessary.
The office base location is yet to be confirmed, but the role is countywide in scope.

Essential Requirements:
* Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
* At least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's services
* Social Work England Registration
* Driving license and access to own vehicle
