Job Specification – Automation Build Technician
Location: Wrexham, North Wales
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £31,000 – £35,000 (with opportunities for progression)
Hours: Monday–Thursday, 08:00–17:15, Friday 08:00–16:15 (9-day fortnight, with 21–23 non-working Fridays per year)
About the Role
We’re recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturing organisation that is expanding its automation department. The team designs, builds, and implements bespoke automated equipment and production lines, using cutting-edge technologies such as 3D CAD, industrial robots, Cobots, 3D printing, and Industry 4.0 smart factory solutions.
As an Automation Build Technician, you will be hands-on in the assembly, wiring, testing, and commissioning of automated machinery and production systems. You’ll work closely with engineers and project managers to help deliver innovative automation solutions in the UK and overseas.
Key Responsibilities
Assemble and wire automation equipment and control panels to engineering specifications
Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, drawings, and BOMs
Perform functional testing, troubleshooting, and fault-finding on builds
Support on-site installation and commissioning activities when required
Ensure all work is completed to high standards of safety, quality, and documentation
Work closely with design and engineering teams, providing feedback to improve efficiency and reliability
Requirements
Proven experience in automation equipment build, or electrical/mechanical assembly within an industrial setting
Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams
Excellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Comfortable working under pressure to meet project deadlines
Relevant technical qualification (minimum Level 3 NVQ, ONC, HNC, or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering)
Willingness to travel occasionally for installations and project support
Desirable Skills:
Experience with pneumatic systems and industrial robotics
Knowledge of PLCs, sensors, actuators, and control systems
Familiarity with CE marking requirements and safety standards
Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement
