PSI supplies specialist equipment designed and manufactured in-house for the advanced materials industry. Our technology is sold worldwide, offering customers research or production-scale machines to process feedstock into refined, alloyed, and highly valuable metal powders.
The Controls System Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software and hardware for control systems that regulate and monitor atomisation processes. The goal is to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely. Tasks include designing control algorithms using Siemens Controls STEP 7, troubleshooting system issues, and conducting system tests and evaluations. The engineer will also oversee the overall design of the Control System, including wiring and modules, to facilitate effective manufacturing and installation.
Skills
* Proficiency in electrical systems and control panel design
* Strong knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting
* Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
* Experience in commissioning and maintaining control systems
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
* Effective communication and teamwork abilities
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations in electrical installations
* Familiarity with industry standards and best practices
* Attention to detail and accuracy in work
* Ability to work independently and manage projects efficiently
Qualifications & Education
* Possession of an accredited university degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
* Completion of appropriate training and relevant experience post-qualification
* Membership in a chartered engineering institution
* Possession of an accredited university degree, BTEC/SQA award, or NVQ/SVQ Level 4 leading to Incorporated Engineers
The role is based at PSI’s Hailsham site and involves occasional UK and overseas visits to support our global customer base. Due to the nature of the work, this role cannot be performed remotely.
Full UK Driving Licence and ability to travel globally as required.
Working Hours:
37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, with a 60-minute break.
Holiday Entitlement:
* Year 1: 22 days
* Year 2 onwards: 25 days (plus bank holidays)
