Grade A Recruitment is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic SEND school for an ASAP start! This is a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students who benefit from specialised support and a nurturing environment.
This is primarily a full-time role, however, part-time hours will be considered for the right candidate who can bring invaluable experience and commitment to the team.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support to pupils with a diverse range of special educational needs (SEN). You will work closely with class teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create an inclusive, stimulating, and supportive learning environment that helps every child achieve their personal best.
Responsibilities:
1. Providing tailored one-to-one or small group support to pupils with varying SEND needs.
2. Assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
3. Adapting learning materials and activities to meet individual pupil needs, under the guidance of the class teacher.
4. Supporting pupils with communication strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton, assistive technology where applicable).
5. Assisting with personal care, mobility, and feeding needs if required, always maintaining dignity and respect.
6. Promoting positive behaviour and developing social skills through consistent and proactive strategies.
7. Monitoring, observing, and accurately recording pupil progress and challenges, providing regular feedback to the class teacher and multi-disciplinary team.
8. Contributing to a safe, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment.
9. Collaborating effectively with teachers, therapists, parents, and other support staff.
Requirements:
10. Proven experience working as a Teaching Assistant, specifically within a SEND school setting or with children with complex special educational needs.
11. A strong understanding of various SEND conditions and effective strategies to support learning and development.
12. Patience, empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.
13. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong rapport with pupils, staff, and parents.
14. The ability to be proactive, adaptable, and a strong team player.
15. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
16. An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through us.
