Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist – East London Foundation Trust, Bedfordshire Community Healthcare Service
This role is responsible for the delivery of safe and effective services for patients with tissue viability needs within the community services of Bedfordshire. As a senior member of the Tissue Viability Team, you will provide expert clinical leadership, specialist assessment, and evidence‑based advice to community nursing teams, mental health teams, care homes and other partners across Mid Bedfordshire. You will play a key role in driving pressure ulcer prevention, supporting complex wound management and leading quality‑improvement initiatives that directly enhance patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Provide a specialist role under the guidance of the Tissue Viability Lead, delivering expert advice and clinical input into the prevention of pressure ulcers and the management of complex wounds.
* Support and deliver education and training of healthcare professionals in wound prevention and management.
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in preventing hospital admissions, supporting early discharge and offering ongoing support and advice to patients with wounds.
* Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and represent the clinical lead when unavailable.
* Support the delivery of cost‑effective care and wound formulary compliance.
* Lead a team of nurses to ensure management of complex wounds, including leg and pressure ulcers, aligns with the pressure ulcer pathway and national wound‑care guidance.
* Undertake specialist reviews within agreed timeframes and support learning from pressure‑ulcer incidents.
* Work across multiple Trust sites, patients’ homes, nursing and residential homes.
Qualifications
* First‑level registered nurse with a minimum of 5 years post‑registration experience.
* At least 2 years of experience in wound care with a recognised qualification in wound care and sharp debridement.
* Experience caring for burns, leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and wounds requiring negative pressure therapy.
* Degree level (or working towards) BSc in Tissue Viability or Dermatology.
* Mentorship qualification and training in Quality Improvement.
* Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
