Rotheram Carrington Financial Recruitment is exclusively working with a growing manufacturing SME that is looking to recruit a Hands-On Financial Controller. Our client is a fast-growing, innovative manufacturing business near Ewloe, with ambitious plans for growth and investment. As the business scales up its operations, they seek a commercially-minded and Hands-On Finance Controller to take ownership of the finance function and play a key role in driving financial discipline, insight, and control across the business.
This is a newly created role, so the successful candidate must be willing to roll up their sleeves. It could be ideal for someone looking to progress to the next level in their career or a proven Finance Manager or Controller with experience in SME businesses that have experienced growth.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this broad and autonomous role involves leading all aspects of finance and participating in the leadership team, from day-to-day accounting to strategic financial planning. It suits a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and enjoys influencing leadership while managing operational finance tasks.
Key Responsibilities
* Own and manage the day-to-day finance function, including transactional processes (AP, AR, bank, payroll)
* Prepare monthly management accounts, KPIs, cash flow forecasts, and board reports
* Develop financial models to support business growth and investment decisions
* Lead budgeting and forecasting processes
* Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, and regulatory obligations
* Manage year-end accounts and audit processes
* Implement and improve financial controls, systems, and processes
* Partner with operations and commercial teams to drive performance
* Support inventory costing, product margins, and manufacturing variances
* Play a key role in system improvements and potential ERP implementation
About You
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience
* Strong experience in SME or start-up environments, ideally within manufacturing or a product-based business
* Hands-on approach, comfortable with details but able to see the big picture
* Strong Excel and financial modeling skills
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
