A specialist educational setting in the Peterlee area is looking to appoint a Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 7–11 years on a full-time basis. The school provides tailored support for pupils with moderate learning difficulties, Autism, ADHD, and communication needs. Your Role You will work closely with classroom teachers and SEN staff to support pupils in both academic learning and personal development. Responsibilities include: Supporting pupils during maths, reading and topic lessons Delivering structured learning interventions in small groups Supporting pupils with attention and focus during lessons Encouraging confidence and participation in class activities Helping pupils develop organisation and independence skills Assisting with behaviour support strategies Supporting children during outdoor learning and physical activities Helping teachers track pupil progress Experience Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential. Candidates with backgrounds in: Youth work Care work Coaching or mentoring Psychology or education studies are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants without direct school experience may be offered the role on a trainee scale, with full support provided to develop the skills needed to succeed in the classroom.
