RAD has a fantastic opportunity for a part-time Outreach Advice Worker to join its team.

The post holder will be providing Information, Advice and Guidance to the deaf community, predominantly Energy Advice. The post holder will be expected to cover Derbyshire. The ideal candidate would be required to be within commutable distance of these areas but willing to travel long distances, particularly to London to attend meetings, training, and events. As an Outreach Advice Worker, your main responsibility is to deliver specific energy information, energy topics, and advice. This will involve one-to-one support, face-to-face and/or remote, group activities, and community-based services to deaf people in their first and/or preferred language. Provide person-centred support and guidance to enable deaf people to develop confidence and empower them with the skills to make informed choices and achieve positive outcomes.

Responsibilities as our Outreach Advice Worker will include:


1. Provide safe, effective and quality support to deaf people (remote and face-to-face) in line with agreed contractual outputs and outcomes. (All support should be given in a person's first or preferred language/their relevant communication preference, e.g., British Sign Language (BSL).
2. Support people to develop the skills that they need to build confidence, make informed and independent choices, and to participate in opportunities within the community.
3. Provide energy advice (within the parameters of this role) and other information, advice, and guidance related to energy.
4. Coordinate, set up, and deliver workshops and outreach services in and around the area.
5. Proactively take part in localised partnership opportunities and networking.
6. Where required, provide support for other projects and services that RAD provide.
7. Identify additional support needs (e.g., specialist advice or advocacy) and refer to relevant RAD services or discuss with line manager where further discussion or assessment is needed.
8. Promote opportunities to attend RAD activities and events that are relevant, of interest, and are helpful.
9. Contribute to the planning and delivery of group activities, events, and workshops.
10. Record information, outcomes, and achievements onto the appropriate database (meeting required deadlines).
11. Gather, record, and submit impactful case studies and the required consents, demonstrating positive outcomes.


Minimum Requirements:

1. Native sign language user or ability to sign to a minimum standard of BSL Level 3.
2. A willingness to undertake additional training/qualifications that are relevant to the post, including for safeguarding and data protection.
3. Experience of working with deaf people or within the deaf community and an understanding of deaf awareness and deaf culture - preferably, of delivering advice services.
4. Experience and understanding of the barriers faced by deaf people.
5. Experience of working independently particularly due to lone working/remote areas.
6. Proactive and creative approach to the development and delivery of person-centred support.
7. Flexible in approach to working including some evenings or weekends when required.
8. Must undergo an enhanced DBS check.
9. A minimum level 2 advice qualification is essential or equivalent experience.
10. Must be a car owner/driver and able to travel frequently over long distances.

This is a fixed-term contract of 2 years, working 22.5 hours per week. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of up to £26,000 (FTE) per annum pro rata. There may be an opportunity for this to extend or become permanent subject to RAD's business development.
