Interaction and Communication
1. You will interact effectively and enthusiastically with children, motivating and engaging them in learning activities appropriate to their needs.
2. You will support children’s participation in learning experiences through questioning techniques, effective feedback and well-timed interventions.
Tasks and Responsibilities
3. Using digital technology to enhance and support learning experiences.
4. Establishing positive working relationships with other staff, parents, carers and children.
5. Liaising with staff working at other stages in Education or in other locations and services to promote continuity for children at points of transition.
6. Working with staff both within and beyond the establishment and to promote the development of children and their families.
7. Promoting parental participation and effective partnerships with parents/carers and the community.
8. Promoting and valuing each child and supporting their welfare, including their personal, social and emotional wellbeing.
9. Contributing to the support and training of students, parent helpers and volunteers and provide basic advice and support to pupil support assistants
10. The main duties and responsibilities of the post includes the individual’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of people they will be providing support or care for or comes into contact with.
Assessment and Observations
11. Observing and assessing children and recording of their progress.
12. Sharing observations and contributing to discussions about each individual child’s progress.
13. Supporting the achievement or appropriate learning outcomes for each child including planning and recording activities for individual children to extend their learning experience.
14. Recording and reporting on concerns regularly, contributing to children’s personal plans or other files where appropriate.

15. Contributing to a wide range of learning activities (adult directed, adult initiated and child initiated) and the achievement of appropriate learning outcomes.
16. Using a range of strategies to support children to become leaders of their own learning and have greater confidence.

17. Promoting literacy and numeracy rich learning environments.
18. Planning and promoting a range of play contexts in the learning environment.
19. Promoting equality and awareness of cultural diversity ensuring that every child experiences a fair and friendly environment.
20. Preparing, monitoring and maintaining resources to provide a safe, stimulating learning environment on a day to day basis.
Self Evaluation
21. Contributing to team meetings alongside class teachers and to the evaluation of the work of the setting.
22. Evaluating progress against identified priorities (including regular planning) and participating in activities which support evaluation of the establishment’s work.

The Person
23. You are required to register with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of taking up employment in this role and to complete the Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) over the first registration period.
24. Educated to SCQF level 7 which includes HNC or equivalent eg Early Years Education and Childcare or HNC Childhood Practice or SVQ3 Social Services Children and Young People or SNNEB or a relevant primary teaching qualification at SCQF Level 9.
25. Experience in delivering child-centred play pedagogy.
26. Experience of working with parents/carers and supporting or leading information sharing sessions on a range of topics/issues.
27. Experience of working with children in the early stages of primary school.
28. Experience of writing reports and children’s records.
Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
As this role requires SSSC registration, the successful applicant will have three months to apply for registration.
If appointed, you must start your application as soon as possible so you're registered within the required six months.
If you need to achieve a qualification to maintain your SSSC membership, information will be provided if you are appointed. You must ensure you complete the qualification within the specified timeframe.
