Positioned within the commercial team, you will be right in the centre of a fast-paced team, working hand in hand with the Buying teams, building strong relationships with our biggest suppliers and working closely with our Marketing & Channels teams in particular to build, plan and execute the 'How to sell' plan driven from the customer and commercial strategy to develop our business for future growth.
This exciting role within the commercial team is part of the New Business Squad that has high ambitions for growth, reports to the Senior GTM Manager; you will be accountable for supporting the category buyers to develop the 'How to sell' blueprint for new categories (likely to be one to three each year). Combining customer and competitor insight along with financial imperatives to ensure the category squad develops a strategy to both maximise CSAT and EBIT. The role will act as a lynchpin between all functional representatives in the squad and beyond, pulling together annual, quarterly and in-season initiatives and activities to maximise sales & margin. You will also arm the category buyer to negotiate adequate supplier funding support.
Key Responsibilities:
* Work with the customer insight team to ensure the squad adequately understands the new category landscape, including customers, competitors, trends, financial performance, range performance, threats and opportunities, to support the development of the annual category strategy
* Create the 'how to sell' blueprint for the annual category strategy, helping define the guiderails for: target KPIs (CSAT, share, EBIT, stock), customer shopping journey, category proposition and the 'go to market' plan
* Using insight, work with the senior buyer, planner, services and credit representatives to define the category 'proposition' - the best combination of range, price, availability, services and credit to maximise customer satisfaction, competitiveness and financial return
* Using insight, work with channel representatives and brand & marketing to define the right shopping journey in all channels, including training and engagement of customer facing colleagues in the category selling journey
* Work with the central planning and brand & marketing function to develop in line with the annual events calendar the 'Go to market' strategy and plan for the category
* Build close relationships with key brands and work with these suppliers and the senior buyer to agree and execute high value, funded initiatives in all channels - including sponsored marketing, fixtures and demonstration in store and colleague training
* Bringing appropriate analytics and insight from the online and customer team to support decision making related to day to day trading, events and promotions and range changes to ensure the category are making relevant data driven decisions and plans
* Work with the Senior E-commerce Manager to understand category KPI dashboard and reporting metrics ensuring timely and accurate communication of performance vs targets
* Co-ordinate responses to major marketing briefs across the category in appropriate templates including TV deals, home page nominations, deal lists, CRM requirements, overarching promotions e.g. trade in
* Work with peer groups to lead cross-functional delivery for all things related to customer journey for your Head of Category
You will need:
* Strong influencing skills and ability to manage several different stakeholders, at all levels, to deliver plans
* Excellent numerical and analytical skills to review data and provide recommendations/actions plans to drive sales, profit and cash
* Good facilitation and influencing skills to enable successful process completion
* Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, capable of presenting to team forums as well as working cross functionally to achieve the desired results
* Customer champion with excellent commercial awareness and understanding of customer needs
* Good working knowledge of SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word and PowerPoint as well as MS Office workflow tools
* Good presentation and speaking skills
* Monitor internal controls and make recommendations as needed
* Coordinate teams, and train and identify training requirements
* Management/leadership experience of more than 1 direct report
