About the role We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Governance Advisor to join our team. The Governance Advisor will play a critical role in providing high-level governance advice to the organization. This role requires the ability to work independently, offering expert guidance on matters related to governance, probity and conduct, in addition to facilitating training and awareness and ensuring the integrity and quality of council documents. Key Responsibilities: Provide expert governance advice to senior management, staff and councillors Conduct investigations into governance and conduct related matters Support the case management of complex and sensitive requests, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies. Undertake reviews of large council documents, including reports, policies, and council business papers Collaborate with internal stakeholders to enhance governance practices and foster a culture of integrity, transparency and accountability. Facilitate and assist with the development of governance awareness programs and training sessions to staff Selection criteria: Demonstrated experience working independently and providing high-level governance advice in a complex environment. Demonstrated ability to provide probity advice and conduct thorough investigations into governance and conduct-related matters. Strong analytical skills with the capability to review and edit large documents to ensure accuracy, context and clarity Demonstrated experience showing an aptitude to be a person of integrity with a highly ethical approach to work Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders Sound understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices in governance or related fields Experience in or ability to facilitate training and awareness programs Recruitment process: For an initial application, applicants should submit: Cover Letter Resume Responses to the above selection criteria highlighting how your experience will add value as the Governance Advisor (max 1000 words). Applicants who do not meet the selection criteria will not be considered. Commencing salary: $112,849.00 - $130,626.00 per annum, plus 11.5% Superannuation. You will be required to undertake employment checks, which may include a Criminal History Check, Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test, as relevant to the position for which you have applied. Where a Criminal History Check is required and has returned a result that indicates disclosable court outcomes, you will be required to provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council, for review, in order to progress through the recruitment process.
