Job Title: PREA Coordinator (Full-Time, Exempt)
Department: Probation and Court Services
Summary
Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the PREA Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the facilitys efforts to comply with the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). The PREA Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the well‑being of the youth in custody by promoting a facility environment that seeks to prevent, detect, and respond to sexual abuse and harassment.
Primary Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and oversee facility policies and procedures to ensure full compliance with PREA standards for Juvenile Detention Centers.
* Coordinate and lead training related to PREA for all staff members, volunteers, contractors, and anyone who has contact with the residents.
* Coordinate and lead age‑appropriate training for the youth in custody about their rights under PREA upon intake and regularly thereafter.
* Serve as the primary contact for all PREA related matters, including allegations and coordination of immediate response protocols which may involve coordination with outside agencies including law enforcement, mental health, and medical personnel.
* Oversee all investigations, conduct administrative investigations, and track their outcomes.
* Coordinate and schedule facility audits, work closely with the auditors, and create any needed corrective action plans for any non‑compliance issues.
* Maintain accurate documentation and data for all PREA‑related matters, including any annual reports or audit materials.
* Along with the Superintendent, work to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards including PREA standards, Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDOJJ) standards, Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts (AOIC) standards, and any future standards that govern the facility.
* Continually review standards to ensure compliance and recommend any needed changes to policy or procedure to ensure continued compliance with standards.
* Remain current on updates to PREA standards and the best practices in the field to ensure the well‑being of the youth in custody and to ensure their rights are not being violated.
* Engage in basic supervisory responsibilities such as training employees, addressing complaints, resolving problems, planning work, and disciplining employees.
Qualifications
* Bachelors degree and two (2) years of related experience and/or training with at least one (1) year being in juvenile detention/residential services. A masters degree is preferred.
* Be certified eligible for a supervisory position by the AOIC.
o Submit the Probation/Court Services Employment/Promotion Application to be certified eligible.
* Must be a resident of Illinois within 90 days of appointment.
* Must successfully pass a background check.
* Must have a valid drivers license.
Compensation
* The salary range for this position is $60,154.58 to $90,181.65 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
