Biomedical Scientist – Haematology Laboratory

Applications are invited from dynamic, motivated and forward‑thinking HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientists for the Registered Biomedical Scientist role within the Haematology laboratory at University Hospital Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work in the team rotating through all sections of the laboratory across the Worthing and St Richards sites.
Candidates who are working towards HCPC registration are eligible to apply. The full band 5 post will be awarded only after full HCPC registration has been completed.
The department provides Haematology, Coagulation, Haemoglobinopathy and Blood Transfusion services to University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, General Practitioners through Primary Care Trusts, and a specialist service to other NHS Trusts in Sussex, Surrey and Kent. It holds ISO accreditation 15189 and is approved by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences as a training laboratory.
Major investment is ongoing within the Trust, and the building of the Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary Care Centre in the coming years will reinforce the Trust as a key player in South East England.
Responsibilities
* Work in all sections of the Haematology department, rotating through Haematology, Coagulation, Haemoglobinopathy and Blood Transfusion.
* Participate fully in a 24‑hour shift system, including nights, weekends and bank holidays, subject to competency assessment.
* Carry out manual, semi‑automated and automated complex investigations on a range of specialised analyzers to aid in diagnosis and monitoring of disease.
* Provide an efficient, cost‑effective and timely clinical service as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Maintain high professional standards, knowledge and competence, undertaking continuing professional development and assisting in the training of other staff.
Person Specification
HCPC registration
* HCPC registered (or significant progress towards registration)
Laboratory experience
* NHS laboratory experience
* Experience of specialist techniques
Qualifications
* BSc Biomedical Sciences or a degree accredited by IBMS as suitable for HCPC registration

Compensation and contract
Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 a year (pro rata)
