Part-Time Residential MEP Engineer – Quality & Standards Lead
Remote (UK) | ~15–20 hrs/week | Freelance or pro-rata
£48–55 k FTE (pro‑rata for 15–20 hrs/wk)
About MyHubb
MyHubb delivers no-nonsense MEP and renewable-energy design for one-off new-builds and high-end refurbishments in the residential space. We strip out needless complexity, hit compliance first‑time, and save architects, builders, and homeowners time, cost, and headaches by delivering real value. The leadership team brings 20+ years in the game and is currently delivering one‑off new builds, commercial‑to‑residential conversions, and fabric‑first refurbishments across the UK.
Why this role exists
Demand is climbing and quality is non‑negotiable. We need a sharp pair of eyes—and an even sharper brain—to lock down QA, steer workflow, and codify best practice while still rolling up sleeves on design when the heat is on.
What you’ll do
* Own the QA gate. Review calcs, drawings, BIM files, and reports before they leave the building.
* Set & refine standards. Turn tacit know-how into checklists, templates, and playbooks that future team members can’t mis-interpret.
* Manage workflow. Juggle a handful of live projects, nudging external modellers/drafters so deadlines stay real.
* Sort the knotty bits. Dive into clashes, compliance knots, and performance shortfalls—and come out with answers, not excuses.
* Lead by example. Design small packages yourself (heat-loss calcs, SAP tweaks, kit schedules) so your advice carries weight.
* Mentor & challenge. Push the team to defend every assumption and prove every number.
What you bring
* Chartered (or close) with 5 + years across mechanical and electrical building-services design.
* Ruthless eye for detail; you spot a missing valve symbol at 50 paces.
* Command of UK regs—Part L, Part F, SAP, CIBSE Guides, BS 7671.
* Hands-on with at least one dynamic-simulation tool.
* Plain-English communicator who can justify decisions to architects, builders, and anxious homeowners alike.
* Able to spread hours through the working week—school run friendly but still responsive.
Nice-to-haves: Interest in residential, heat-pump selection, PV/battery integration, coding macros/scripts that kill repetitive grunt work.
What you’ll get
* Impact, not noise. Your QA call sticks—no committees.
* Flexibility. Deliverables matter; clock-watching doesn’t.
* A say in how we scale. Help shape our “Outcome-as-a-Service” model before it’s set in stone.
* Fair pay. £48–55 k FTE (pro‑rata for 15–20 hrs/wk) depending on chartership and depth of QA experience.
* Credibility. Earn recognition on practical, performance‑driven family homes—projects where smart engineering adds tangible value.
Where we are now
