Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic Band 7 Dietitian to join the Specialist Weight Management Team at Aintree Hospital. We are a highly specialist Tier 3 Service treating and managing people living with obesity across Liverpool and surrounding areas.

The service is led by Professor John Wilding and you will be joined by a committed team of consultants, GP’s, physiotherapists, dietitians, an occupational therapist, assistant practitioners and administrators.


Main duties of the job

Working closely with members of the MDT, the post holder will be responsible for helping to deliver a specialist dietetic service to patients living with obesity and related disorders.

The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment and treatment for individuals with complex obesity in an outpatient service across both hospital and community sites (both in face to face and virtual settings).

Assessment and treatment will be in the form of clinics and groups. There are opportunities available to provide dietetic input to clinical trials.

You will work alongside patients to manage their weight with conservative approaches, medical management, as well as supporting patients wishing to pursue bariatric surgery.

The role offers the opportunity to blend a wide range of dietetic skills, wellbeing interventions and behaviour change in a holistic manner. You will lead service development projects and be part of the full MDT approach to patient care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Working effectively as part of the Weight Management MDT.
* Developing and running specialist group programmes.
* Supervision and support of junior colleagues and students.
* Clinical and dietetic assessment and review of patients in a 1:1 setting.
* Delivering Bariatric Education sessions.
* Leading on service development projects and supporting operational leads.
* Participating in research and audit.
* Keeping up to date with CPD and current issues in obesity management.


Person specification


Qualifications

* Degree in Dietetics or Science/Nutrition
* Evidence of continuing professional development


Experience

* Experience of advance level practice in dietetics
* Experience of communicating and working effectively with service users, carers, other agencies and professionals
* Experience of establishing and maintaining good standards of professional practice to ensure the delivery of an effective, quality service


Knowledge

* Completed behaviour change training
* High levels of knowledge and previous experience of working in weight management
* Evidence of developing knowledge within weight management
* High level of expertise in nutritional management of patients within weight management.
* Knowledge of nutritional needs and calculating nutritional requirements
* Working knowledge of a range of clinical conditions and current best practice for dietetic management
* Competence in assessment of weight management patients and developing nutrition care plans
* Computer literacy and ability to use a variety of electronic systems
* Awareness of clinical governance and its implications for dietetics including importance of audit projects
* Awareness of regulatory bodies (HCPC) and professional bodies (BDA) and code of practice and professional guidelines


Skills

* Ability to plan and deliver education to patient groups
* Skills to train other health care professionals and student dietitians
* Ability to manage and prioritise
* Ability to document and record accurate records in line with national standards
* Ability to record activity and other data manually and electronically
* Lead and complete allocated projects and meet deadlines
* Ability to assist in developing educational resources to meet the needs of clients and carers which are evidence-based
* Membership of specialist group relevant to speciality
* Completion of student assessment skills course
