Job Overview

This is a replacement full-time post to support the provision and development of acute paediatric services in West Wales. With an interest in paediatric neurology, neurodisability and epilepsy, you will join colleagues in a very dynamic and forward-looking General Paediatrics department. The neonatal service has merged across the units in the 3 counties to enable BAPM standards are met, and provide ongoing paediatric training. The SCBU (based at Glangwili) plays its part in the South Wales Neonatal network, with CHANTs providing transport

This post is primarily based in Carmarthenshire with potential for outreach clinics throughout the Health Board (to be discussed as part of a job plan). You will support on-call cover and Consultant of the Week duties, overseeing PACU, Ward, HDU and SCBU care for children and young people based at Glangwili Hospital

This post comes during a period of Health Board-wide service reviews, including a comprehensive consultation to assess the future of service provision in West Wales. The overall aim is to provide a spectrum of flexible and responsive services for General Paediatrics across the Health Board.

Main duties of the job

This full time position at Hywel Dda University Health Board with be predominately based in at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen. Supporting the development and delivery of a high quality paediatric services in the South West Wales region, along with the provision of neurology specialist care, you will work on a sessional allocation of a maximum of 10 PA's with the split being 8 DCC and 2 SPAs.

There will a requirement to contribute to 1:12 consultant of the ward week covering acute paediatrics and SCBU along with safeguarding medical referrals.

The on call is on spilt weekends on 1 in 8 specific to this job and based at Glangwili Hospital.

The clinics duties consist of a general clinic in addition to 2 sub-specialist interest clinics per week as agreed within your job plan.

48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only p roviders and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
