Overview

JOB STATEMENT

* Provide high quality complex diagnostic imaging of patients
* Experienced radiographer rotating between specialist areas
* Comply to all relevant radiation legislation, local health and safety, infection control and governance policies
* Assesses own workload of patients/clients, sets imaging parameters; maintains associated records
* Supervises radiographers, senior radiographers, support workers, assistants, students working in the department
* Participate in departmental research including audits and image optimisation
* Able to run a modality within Imaging in the absence of a modality lead to support the day to day running of the imaging service


Responsibilities

* Communication & Relationship Skills: Communicates sensitive, confidential information concerning patients/clients requiring empathy, persuasion and reassurance. Able to communicate highly with a wide range of stakeholders including sensitive information to patients.
* Analytical & Judgemental Skills: Skills for assessing patient/client conditions and setting complex imaging parameters. Subject matter expert in working areas.
* Planning & Organisational Skills: Plans and prioritises own and section patient workload, training sessions/plans workload for specialist service
* Physical Skills: Dexterity, co-ordination & sensory skills for positioning, manipulation of patients, equipment to fine tolerances. Carrying out appropriate patient moving/handling. Wearing appropriate PPE to work in Radiology. Conducting IV cannula placement and administration of contrast and other drugs under PGD guidance.
* Responsibility for Patient/Client: Assesses and implements highly specialist imaging or interventional radiology procedures
* Responsibility for Policy/Service Development: Follows policies and HCAs values and behaviours in line with company vision, makes recommendations on changes which impact across the imaging service to improve quality of service, ensures that Local Rules, Employees procedures and all other relevant documents are read and understood.
* Responsibility for Financial & Physical Resources: Safe use of all equipment, reports faults, maintains and participates in regular quality assurance programme for safe operation of imaging equipment
* Responsibility for Human Resources: Supervises work of other qualified staff, students and assistants; provides clinical training/provides specialist training. Assists in department induction of new staff. Assists with recruitment of Junior staff and assisting with 24x7 staff rota.
* Responsibility for Information Resources: Maintains work-related records. Maintains single patient imaging record.
* Responsibility for Research & Development: Regularly undertake surveys, mandatory audits and clinical audits; undertake R&D activity as necessary.
* Freedom to Act: Works within codes of practice and professional guidelines with accountability for own actions.
* Physical & Mental Effort: Positioning, manoeuvring patients and equipment; lead shielding and PPE; concentration on patient assessment, PAUSED process for imaging investigations; incident reporting as per policy
* Emotional Effort: Occasional to frequent distressing or emotional circumstances
* Working Conditions: Frequent unpleasant conditions


Infection Prevention and Control

The following duties are written in accordance with HCA Infection prevention and control education framework. All staff should ensure that good IPC practice is embedded; actions minimise risks to health and safety and contribute to positive and safe practice. All staff providing care should be competent to assess IPC risks, provide safe and effective care, and embed optimal IPC practice in day-to-day work. Senior staff ensure actions to prevent and control infection are appropriate, safe, recorded and monitored, and that learning from incidents is implemented.

Supplementary – Person Specification

* Experience: Recent clinical radiology experience; patient-centered care; CPD; use of PACS/EHR systems; 5 years post-grad; 2 years in a specialised modality
* Skills & Attributes: Knowledge of imaging techniques, effective communication, decisive judgement, mentoring/training, deputising for supervisor
* Knowledge: Ionising Radiation Regulations, governance and audit; risk management; health & safety
* Education/Training: BSc Diagnostic Radiography; HCPC registration; IV cannulation (SoR certificate); Postgraduate qualification desirable
* Other: Flexible hours, site travel, on-call/out-of-hours; cross-sectional, mammography, IR/Cath Lab roles as applicable
