Position: Development Coordinator Supervisor: Chief Development Officer FLSA Status: Non-Exempt The Up Center is the oldest and largest child and family services agency in Hampton Roads and has been part of our community since 1883. Position Summary: Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Development Coordinator plays a key role in advancing The Up Center’s mission by supporting core fundraising strategies, including: managing donor and gift data with precision and integrity, providing critical financial tracking and reporting across multiple platforms, supporting stewardship and donor communications, leading the execution of annual fundraising appeals, and serving as a primary organizer for agency-led development events. The role requires a high degree of attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a proactive mindset to improve processes and deepen donor engagement. This position is highly collaborative, working across departments and with external partners to elevate the agency’s fundraising impact and donor experience. Responsibilities: Donor Database (Bloomerang) Ownership and Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in Bloomerang, ensuring data integrity and compliance with established standards. Generate donor and fundraising reports to support strategic decision-making and monitor campaign performance. Track donor interactions, stewardship activities, and project timelines to ensure coordinated and timely engagement. Lead reconciliation of development-related revenue across giving platforms (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, Benevity, Facebook, ACH) and the donor database. Identify and implement enhancements to database functionality that improve efficiency and better support fundraising operations. Prepare donor research profiles, acknowledgment letters, and customized meeting materials to support cultivation and stewardship efforts. Maintain records for donor recognition and giving history to ensure consistent and accurate recognition across platforms and campaigns. In partnership with Marketing, coordinate all fundraising appeals (mail, online, and direct outreach), ensuring deadlines and goals are met. Serve as the primary point of contact for general inquiries from donors, partners, etc. In partnership with Marketing, support coordination and execution of all special events and activities in support of The Up Center’s development plan. Lead day-of execution for annual Step Up and Step Out fundraising event. Prepare, coordinate and submit applications and materials in support of agency compliance requirements. Lead and coordinate volunteer committee and assignments for assigned events. Represent The Up Center at community events, donor meetings, other conversations, etc. in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s or associate degree preferred, with a minimum of two years of related work experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams) and donor database management (experience with Bloomerang preferred). Working knowledge of basic financial accounting and proficiency with Excel, including formulas. Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, oral, and written abilities, with the capacity to build and maintain relationships across diverse backgrounds. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, with the ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively while managing multiple tasks and remaining composed under pressure. Proven problem-solving skills with the initiative to address issues independently and exercise sound judgment in decision-making. Curious and data-driven mindset with the ability to explore and analyze information to support donor engagement, fundraising strategy, and process improvement. Experience planning and coordinating meetings and events. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Must maintain a valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and working cell phone.
