<div><h3>Rotational Occupational Therapist</h3><p>The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Rotational Occupational Therapist. The closing date is <b>26 June 2026</b>.</p><p>The rotational programme provides an opportunity to consolidate theory into practice and to develop core skills across a variety of clinical areas including Older Adults and Frailty, Neuroscience, Surgery, Oncology, Social Services, and the Oxfordshire Wheelchair Service. Each rotation is six months in duration and will be based across a range of hospital and community settings.</p><p>You will work within our respected and integrated Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy teams, demonstrating excellent communication, interpersonal and team working skills. The post holder will be expected to manage a caseload, plan and undertake Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions with support from team and senior colleagues.</p><p>The Therapy Service is committed to learning and development, supporting regular supervision, peer support and protected CPD time. Newly qualified staff are enrolled onto the OUH Preceptorship Programme in their first year of employment and a yearly Values Based Appraisal encourages individual growth and development within the role.</p><h3>Job Responsibilities</h3><ul><li><b>Communication</b><ul><li>Establishes and maintains effective communication with a range of individuals and groups on complex and potentially stressful topics in a range of situations.</li><li>Obtains and presents complex information in an accessible manner where there are barriers to communication.</li><li>Motivates and persuades patients, carers and other staff through effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.</li><li>Records all necessary information in line with established standards and ensures practice of using the Data Protection Act in accordance with local policies and OT specifications.</li><li>Participates in regular meetings and learning opportunities with other members of the therapies department and the wider MDT.</li><li>Ensures appropriate liaison with other agencies throughout the patient care pathway, including post-decharge.</li><li>Educates others both formally and informally about OT and positively promotes the service.</li></ul></li><li><b>Clinical responsibilities</b><ul><li>Manages a caseload of patients, providing timely assessment and treatment in line with current evidence and guidelines.</li><li>Formulates goals and clinical objectives with patients, carers, relatives and other health professionals, continually reassessing progress and adjusting treatment programmes accordingly.</li><li>Uses developed physical skills, including dexterity, coordination and sensory skills for therapy assessment and treatment techniques in all clinical settings.</li><li>Carries out assessments and treatments involving moderate physical effort frequently throughout the day.</li><li>Applies clinical reasoning at all stages of the OT process, using concepts, theories, principles of OT, frames of reference and theoretical models.</li><li>Assesses patients occupational performance within domains of self-care, productivity and leisure, incorporating physical, cognitive and affective areas.</li><li>Implements treatment plans on an individual and group basis using evidence-based practice and current professional standards.</li><li>Selects and implements appropriate standardised assessments and outcome measures relevant to the patient population.</li><li>Conducts home assessments and access visits in accordance with local policy.</li><li>Identifies supervision needs, exploring own practice and maximising opportunities to develop knowledge and skills.</li><li>Participates in the fieldwork education of OT students and work experience students.</li><li>Participates in in‑service training and development.</li><li>Adheres to relevant national, local and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines regarding clinical and administrative practices.</li><li>Justifies rationale for provision or non-provision of adaptive equipment and provides advice/instructions on safe use, fitting and care of prescribed equipment.</li><li>Ensures out-of-county patients are referred for required OT follow‑up.</li><li>Is competent in the use and application of specialised equipment and is responsible for its safe use with patients, undertaking relevant risk assessments.</li><li>Maintains an up-to-date working knowledge of community services and how to access them to facilitate a timely, quality discharge.</li><li>Is competent in non-traditional OT assessments such as functional mobility.</li><li>Participates in data collection and audit for evaluation of clinical effectiveness.</li><li>Will work required hours, which may include evenings up to 8 pm and weekends within a 37.5‑hour a week shift pattern.</li></ul></li><li><b>Planning and Organisational Skills</b><ul><li>Demonstrates flexible and effective time-management skills to manage caseload and departmental duties appropriately.</li><li>Assists senior therapists in delegating and organizing the work of therapy assistants to meet service demands.</li><li>Prepares for monthly supervision sessions and maintains accurate records of all meetings and discussions.</li><li>Identifies areas for learning and development and proactively plans training to meet these needs.</li></ul></li><li><b>Service & Personal Development</b><ul><li>Develops knowledge and understanding of the research process.</li><li>Contributes to evaluation of clinical effectiveness within the service and supports trust and departmental strategies regarding clinical governance issues.</li><li>Participates in research surveys, audits and evaluation activities or other projects within the OT department.</li><li>Participates in staff appraisal, ensuring individual objectives reflect department and trust objectives.</li><li>Identifies own training needs and attends courses, professional meetings, team meetings, in‑service training and consultations with specialist therapists.</li><li>Assists with induction of new OT starters.</li><li>Provides supervision to unqualified staff once appropriate experience and competencies are obtained.</li><li>Manages a small-scale project.</li><li>Maintains reflective diary/log and encourages others to do so.</li><li>Demonstrates commitment to continuing education.</li><li>Undertakes self-directed study in relevant professional areas to expand knowledge base.</li><li>Promotes financial limits, and refers to other organisations as necessary.</li><li>Is competent using the online electronic system for ordering equipment for patient discharge.</li><li>Maintains patient records and statistics in line with trust standards and the Data Protection Act.</li><li>Maintains up-to-date records of all leave and reports absences in line with trust policy.</li><li>Uses the trust intranet, EPR, email and databases.</li><li>Maintains maintenance of department equipment and information files.</li></ul></li></ul><h3>Working Conditions</h3><ul><li><b>Physical</b>– Highly
