The Role: Vital Presence Near Hornchurch

We are excited to recruit a resilient and compassionate SEN Learning Support Mentor / Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our successful partner SEN school located near Hornchurch.



This is a critical position focused on delivering essential one:to:one and small group intervention and support. You will be working with pupils who have a wide spectrum of complex needs, including Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), physical disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Your day:to:day commitment is fundamental to maintaining a secure, stimulating, and positive atmosphere for learning.



Key Responsibilities and Impact

* Provide crucial tailored assistance, helping students stay focused, manage sensory inputs, and effectively access their differentiated curriculum tasks.
* Collaborate closely with the class teacher, specialist therapists, and other staff to prepare materials and adapt the physical environment to meet specific student needs.
* Implement prescribed individual support plans, including strategies for positive behaviour management, mobility assistance, and communication aids.
* Act as a reliable, positive role model, guiding students in developing key life skills, independence, and emotional regulation.
* Maintain accurate, timely records of student engagement, learning milestones, and overall progress to inform ongoing assessment and planning.
* Provide support with personal care, hygiene, and feeding needs (if required by the student cohort), ensuring all tasks are handled with professionalism and utmost dignity.



Candidate Profile

* Demonstrable experience supporting children or young adults with complex SEN, ideally within a structured school or specialist setting, is non:negotiable.
* A naturally calm, exceptionally resilient, and adaptable temperament, paired with a clear enthusiasm for working with vulnerable young people.
* The capacity to quickly establish strong, professional, and positive relationships with students who may have communication barriers.
* Excellent teamwork, observational skills, and clear, effective communication abilities.
* An active Enhanced Child DBS certificate on the update service (or the willingness immediately).
