We are looking to appoint an experienced Theatre Manager to oversee the technical and operational aspects of our Co-curricular Drama programme and production schedule. Drama is a key part of life at Hurst, both in the curriculum and beyond. Pupils are actively involved in all areas of performance, from acting and directing to technical support, and regularly attend a wide range of productions throughout the year.

Teaching and rehearsals take place in purpose-built spaces, including a fully equipped Black Box Studio and the New Bury Theatre, a 350-seat, professional-standard venue with flexible staging, full lighting and sound systems, and an orchestral pit.

Each year, we deliver a diverse programme of productions, including large-scale musicals, Shakespeare plays, and smaller performances. Students also have the chance to direct their own work and prepare for professional training through LAMDA and leading drama schools.

Who We\'re Looking For

The successful candidate will have:

The ability to lead, manage, and engage staff and pupils to ensure the highest possible standard of technical and performance output.

Experience in technical theatre, with a bias toward sound engineering and a strong understanding of lighting and rigging.

A collaborative mindset to work across the Creative and Performing Arts Faculty and support academic Drama at GCSE and A Level.

* A proactive and organised approach, with a commitment to health and safety, equipment maintenance, and venue management.

A bachelor’s degree in Drama, Technical Theatre, or a related subject, with experience working with young people in either a school or theatrical environment.

Previous experience directing school productions is desirable, but not essential

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required, including managing external bookings and liaising with hirers.

* Knowledge of LOLER & COSHH is desirable

We welcome applications from both qualified teachers and those with relevant professional experience, since the post could be classroom teaching or non-teaching, depending on skills.

What We Offer

An engaging and collaborative environment with exceptional facilities and a wide range of the latest technical equipment.

Opportunities to shape the talent of engaged students who are genuinely passionate about Drama and technical theatre.

A chance to contribute to a thriving department with strong links to professional acting schools and universities.

Extensive professional development programmes, together with career opportunities across the College and Hurst Education Trust.

A highly competitive salary and benefits, including free dining and refreshment facilities during term time.

Access to College facilities for staff and their families during holidays and term time.

Hurstpierpoint College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
