Therole of the Safety Steward
To act inaccordance with the general recommendations of the Guide to Safetyat Sports Grounds (Green Guide) and the specific requirements ofthe Safety Certificate issued by the Local Authority under theSafety of Sports Ground Act1975.
MainAccountabilities:
* Ensurethat you report for duty on time to sign in and report to your areain good time.
* Adhere to the Stadium dresscode.
* Attend pre match briefings and postmatchdebriefings as required.
* Know the location ofand be able to operate effectively if safe to do so thefirefighting equipment at the ground.
* Know thelocation of the First Aid Rooms and any location of First Aiders inyour stand.
* Be fully conversant with anyemergency messages/announcements used to alert staff that anEmergency has arisen.
* Be capable of recognisingpotential fire hazards and suspect packages reporting such findingsimmediately to an Area Manager Safety Steward Supervisor theResponse Team Supervisor the Deputy Safety Officer or the SafetyOfficer.
* Comply promptly with any instructiongiven in an emergency by an Area Manager Safety Steward Supervisorthe Response Team Supervisor the Deputy Safety Officer or theSafety Officer or a Police Officer..
* Monitorthe spectators throughout the Stadium for signs of distress orovercrowding and take action in accordance with briefinginstructions.
* Prevent overcrowding by ensuringthe spectator limits in various parts of the Stadium are compliedwith and spectators sit in the designated area assigned by theirticket.
* Prevent spectators as far as possiblefrom climbing fences and other structures and from standing onseats.
* Ensure that gangways and exits are keptclear at all times.
* Ensure you understand howthe seating number and row numbers work in your designatedarea.
* Know where and how to use the nearestemergency phone.
* Staff all entrances andexits.
* Remain at your allocated post asinstructed unless authorised or ordered to do otherwise by an AreaManager Safety Steward Supervisor the Response Team Supervisor theDeputy Safety Officer or the Safety Officer.
* Report to an Area Manager Safety Steward Supervisor the ResponseTeam Supervisor the Deputy Safety Officer or the Safety Officer anydamage which is likely to pose a threat to safety e.g. a damagedseats.
* Recognise any safeguarding issues andreport them to the Stand Manager or by the emergency phone to theEvent Control.
* Not use their phones to accesssocial media during their shift.
* Assist in theprevention of a pitch incursion/invasion.
* Assist as required in the evacuation of theStadium.
* Assist in the identification ofspectators who are banned from the stadium or who do not possesstickets or who are in possession of forgedtickets.
* Assist in the prevention of breachesof the Ground Regulations.
* Know how to identifyan unattended package or bag using the H.O.T.Sprocess.
* Develop an excellent knowledge of thegeographical layout of the Stadium in which you are employed inparticular its entry and exit routes and to know the emergencyevacuation messages as relevant to all areas of thestadium.
GeneralClubAccountabilities:
* Tocomply with all Club policies including health and safety dataregulations and other legal ethical and socialrequirements.
* To build and maintain goodworking relationships while maintaining a professionalimage.
* To keep confidential any informationgained regarding the Club and its personnel.
* Tomaintain a flexible approach to work at alltimes.
* To ensure compliance with all MatchdaySafeguarding processes and the Clubs Safeguarding Policy andprocesses
* To ensure compliance with the ClubsCode ofConduct.
PersonSpecification:
* Previousexperience of managing spectators at sporting events either as aSafety Steward or in another acceptable capacity is preferable butnot essential as training is a legal requirement and will beprovided.
* Must be able to communicate calmlyand effectively with the Area Manager Safety Steward Supervisor theResponse Team Supervisor the Deputy Safety Officer and the SafetyOfficer when under duress.
* Must be able tocommunicate with spectators customers and staff at all levels atall times particularly under hostile and challengingcircumstances.
* Must have good people managementskills.
* Must be able to provide basic EmergencyFirst Aid or know how and who to contact in the event ofidentifying someone in need of first aid
* GoodCustomer Care skills would beadvantageous.
* Must be able to work as part of ateam.
* Must have an NVQ Level 2 in SpectatorSafety.
* All applicants must beavailable to work weekends and evenings and commit to beingavailable between August andMay.
