Overview

The Specialist Perinatal Service is a passionate, dynamic and committed team. We are expanding and are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join a large Specialist Perinatal Team with expertise and compassion. The team works with small caseloads of women and people who are pregnant or in the post-natal period experiencing mental health difficulties. This is a rewarding and varied role working with our colleagues across the Perinatal Pathway, including maternity, health visiting, IAPT and Infant mental health.

Work as an Occupational Therapist in the Specialist Perinatal Service, within cluster 2 in Salford, Bolton, Bury and Wigan to cover maternity leave. Providing an efficiently administered and professionally competent occupational therapy service for people who use the Specialist Perinatal Service.

Responsibilities

* Manage a caseload of women in the perinatal period with complex, severe and enduring mental health needs, offering occupational therapy interventions where mental health problems have a marked impact on their occupational functioning and who have complex occupational needs.
* Offer specialist occupational therapy assessments and interventions to a case load of clients of complex needs. Assessments and interventions will identify barriers and support clients to achieving functional goals.
* Provide occupational therapy advice to the multi-disciplinary team.
* Contribute to the planning, development, provision and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy Service within the Specialist Perinatal Service as well as contributing to audit, standard setting, research, and development.
* Provide professional supervision of students as well as training to students, staff colleagues and other agencies.

Additional information

* All positions within the Trust are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks.
* The Trust mandates all post holders who require a DBS for their role to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. You will be required to enrol for this service for a fee of £16 per year and maintain registration throughout your employment with GMMH.
* We aspire to ensure our workforce is representative of the diverse communities that we serve and are committed to removing barriers to employment for candidates from under-represented groups (e.g., BAME, Disabled and LGBT+ communities).
* If you would like to have an informal chat about the recruitment process or would value additional support, we’d love to hear from you.
* We are an approved sponsor for the Skilled Worker visa. Applications from individuals who require sponsorship will be considered alongside all other applications. Not all roles are eligible for sponsorship. Review the list of eligible roles and salary requirements on the UK Government's website. If offered a role requiring sponsorship, eligibility will be checked and the offer could be withdrawn if not eligible or right to work cannot be evidenced.
* The Home Office introduces changes from 22/07/2025 that impact the health and care sector; you may wish to familiarise yourself with it.
* Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 7,000 staff and delivers services from over 122 locations in Bolton, Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Wigan, with a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester and beyond.

We provide a welcoming environment with opportunities to learn and develop, and we encourage new ideas to improve care for our service users. The Trust is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults and requires all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
