Job Title: Asset Engineer
Location: Falmer (hybrid – 2 days per week in office or on site)
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full time
Salary: Up to £45,000 depending on experience
About the role
We’re offering an exciting opportunity to join our Water Asset Management team as an Asset Engineer. This newly created role will play a key part in shaping our long‑term water investment plans and supporting the delivery of our regulatory commitments. You will help develop effective engineering solutions that improve asset performance, reduce risk and deliver value for our customers and the environment.
What you will be responsible for:
1. Carry out or review root cause analysis to develop effective solutions to asset performance and risk issues
2. Identify remedial actions to ensure assets operate safely, reliably and in line with regulatory requirements
3. Complete cost–benefit analysis to determine best‑value interventions and define scope, benefits and delivery timescales
4. Develop and assess intervention options for prioritised risks and support operational teams with scheduling and benefits tracking
5. Recommend evidence-based solutions that consider cost, performance, risk and criticality to support AMP investment plans
6. Review solution effectiveness and use feedback to inform future asset strategies and planning decisions, engaging specialist support where needed
7. Support the development of integrated system plans and hand over approved capital interventions, ensuring benefits remain viable through design
Additional Requirements
8. A full UK driving licence is required
9. Occasional travel to operational sites may be needed
What you’ll bring to the role
Essential
10. Degree in engineering or science, or equivalent experience in the water industry
11. Strong IT skills, including MS Office, SAP and GIS
12. Experience in engineering design, feasibility, or construction
13. Knowledge of asset planning tools such as scenario planning or deterioration modelling
14. Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams
Desirable
15. Professional accreditation (e.g., Institute of Asset Management or Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management)
16. Experience supervising staff or contractors
17. Experience applying innovative approaches to problem‑solving
18. Commercial awareness and experience with project costing
