A warm and friendly couple are seeking a Personal Assistant to provide 10 hours of support per week. The role focuses on supporting the wife, enabling her husband to take a break from his role as primary carer.
The lady has Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and osteoporosis, which affect her mobility and increases the risk of falls. She enjoys social activities such as trips to the beach, garden centres, the bowls club, and indoor pastimes like Rummikub and audiobooks.
Role and Responsibilities:
• Provide personal care, including assistance with mobility and safety.
• Support with meal preparation (mainly lunch, occasionally evening meals).
• Assist with medication administration.
• Offer social support at home and during outings, including visits to see friends.
• Help with light household tasks as needed.
• Build a trusting and consistent relationship to ensure continuity of care.
Candidate Requirements:
• Female applicants only (Equality Act 2010 exception).
• Experience supporting individuals with complex health needs, ideally dementia.
• Patient, tolerant, and outgoing, with a good sense of humour.
• Physically capable of assisting with mobility and manual handling.
• Confident driver with access to a suitable vehicle that can accommodate a manual wheelchair.
• Full, clean UK driving licence with business insurance.
• Local to the area for ease of access and familiarity.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to support someone with a visual impairment.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training (manual handling, first aid, medication awareness).
