Position Overview
Strategic Programme Manager (Band 8a) – part‑time (28.8 hours per week). The postholder will provide public health leadership across four screening programmes: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm screening, Diabetic Eye screening, Lung Cancer screening, and Pregnancy & Newborn screening. The role is based in Pan Lothian and will work within the Public Health Directorate.
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership for the four screening programmes and manage a team of Public Health Project Managers.
* Collaborate with Heads of clinical services to ensure effective delivery across the pathway.
* Drive work with colleagues across the system to strengthen programmes, ensure equity of access and reduce health inequalities.
* Provide public health advice and expertise to guide programme development, support incident investigations and ensure effective governance.
* Facilitate collaboration with the Consultant in Public Health to deliver improved health outcomes.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated ability to lead in an engaging, enabling and empowering style.
* Strong communication skills and an in‑depth understanding of inequalities in health and screening programmes.
* Significant proven track record in public health, with specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and experience.
* Previous experience in screening programmes is valuable.
* Legal requirement to hold or be able to obtain a PVG Scheme membership for the relevant regulatory group.
