The key aspect of the role requires you to be responsible for safely transporting veterans with sight loss to and from the activity hub in West Lothian. Our driving team plays a vital role in ensuring veterans can attend the Activity Hubs and may also provide support to facilitate access to vehicles. The role involves adhering to health and safety protocols, including routine vehicle checks to identify issues and reporting them to the leadership team.
As the welcoming face of Sight Scotland Veterans, you will often be the first point of contact for veterans each day, making you an important representative of the organization. Veterans enjoy chatting with the driving team during journeys, so a friendly and welcoming personality is essential.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
* Safely transport veterans in minibus or car to and from the Activity Hub or other locations as needed.
* Perform driving duties necessary for the organization’s operations, as agreed with the Deputy Manager.
* Maintain health and safety standards, ensuring passengers use seatbelts and are assisted safely when boarding or exiting vehicles.
* Drive with due care and attention, complying with current road traffic laws.
* Routine vehicle maintenance, including cleaning and reporting issues promptly.
* Ensure wheelchair clamps are present and functioning correctly.
* Perform any other reasonable driving or ancillary duties required.
The role requires a criminal records check or membership of the PVG scheme through Disclosure Scotland.

Required Skills and Experience
· Valid D1 Licence to drive a minibus
· Previous driving experience in a similar role
· Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety regulations
· Understanding of the Highway Code
· Availability for split shifts between 8:30-10:30 and 14:30-16:30
· Flexibility to work as needed
· Experience working with visually impaired individuals
