The post holder will contribute to and be responsible for ensuring the most effective use of staff and all clinical and non-clinical resources. They will be responsible for delivering and monitoring high standards of nursing care to patients based on their clinical needs, following evidence-based practices and relevant policies, particularly within the Medically Assisted Treatment Service. Familiarity with security and safety protocols within a custodial environment is essential. The post also involves implementing and monitoring comprehensive assessments for patients with substance misuse issues, reducing waiting times, and improving access for the prison population, ensuring continuity of care upon discharge.
The role includes managing a specialist substance misuse prescribing service and providing nursing advice on substance misuse issues to colleagues. This encompasses treatment options such as substitute prescribing, symptomatic management, alcohol withdrawal, detoxification, medication titration, dispensing including controlled drugs, and managing clinical safety concerns like overdose risks.
The post holder will contribute to achieving targets set by Forward Trust and local commissioners, supervise staff, and measure outcomes through collaborative relationships with partner agencies. Flexibility in service delivery may be required. The role may involve covering for the SMS Manager during their absence and nurturing a culture of learning and service development.
This is a part-time role of 21 hours per week.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Qualifications:
* RMN or RGN at degree level (or equivalent) with current UK registration
* Evidence of continuing personal development, revalidation, and post-registration training in nursing care, assessment, and treatment of substance misuse clients
* Evidence of Health Service Management training

Knowledge/Experience:
* Experience and understanding of the substance misuse sector
* Awareness of health issues related to substance misuse
* At least 5 years post-registration experience
