Ready to make a difference? We are looking for Project Support Officers to join our team delivering transformative flood risk management projects across; Cumbria & Lancashire and Greater Manchester, Merseyside & Cheshire.

The main role of the PSO’s is to provide support to project teams. You will be assisting Project Managers with administrative, financial, data or organisational tasks supporting the delivery of their workstreams. These are valued roles with a diverse range of work, giving you an in-depth insight into project management.

You will become involved in a range of activities such as managing mailboxes, handling and processing data, creating GIS layers, setting up new project workspaces, organising and taking meeting minutes, preparing notice of entry letters and public newsletters, ordering site signage, running reports, and accompanying Project Managers on site visits.

You’ll develop your interpersonal skills, building a network of relationships. You will learn how to apply environmental legislation, policy and guidance and will be fully immersed in a professional project management service. As you grow in confidence, we’ll support your ambitions too, helping you use the experience as a springboard for your career.

Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises. Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. The team

We are the Programme and Contracts Management team (PCM), creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management. The North-West PCM hub is led by a Delivery Manager overseeing approximately 75 staff, supported by Programme Specialists, Programme Managers and Project Team Managers (PTM). Each PTM manages Project Executives, Project Managers and Project Support Officers who manage the delivery of projects within our flood & coastal erosion risk management programme using our framework supplier

Experience/skills Required

Essential:

Experience using MS Office, particularly Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Powerpoint.

Ability to prioritise workload, meeting deadlines, with relevant support.

Experience in accurate data management, report writing, presenting relevant information to stakeholders.

Efficient, adaptable communication skills, with a variety of audiences.

Organisational and planning skills.

Desirable

A Levels (or equivalent). Subjects that are particularly advantageous include maths/statistics, geography, English, environmental studies, business studies, economics, computer science.

This role interacts with many different contacts across the Environment Agency, so a background of working in a customer-facing environment, demonstrating good communication skills useful. You should be positive, keen to help colleagues and take pride in your work.

Experience or exposure of working in a project environment.

Role specific license requirements

Full UK driving licence
