Engineering Director – Technology Strategy & Delivery
Location: Central London (Hybrid – 2 days per week)
Salary: £170,000–£200,000 + Bonus + Benefits
We’re seeking an exceptional Engineering Director with deep financial-services experience and a strong consultative approach. This role is ideal for someone who can partner directly with CTOs and executive leaders to shape technology strategy, drive large-scale transformation, and identify solutions that deliver real business value.
You’ll operate comfortably across both strategy and execution—able to define architecture, lead teams, build compelling business cases, and still dive into code or technical detail when needed. This is not a sales role, but you must be confident presenting complex technical solutions to senior stakeholders and guiding them through the decision-making process.
Key Responsibilities
* Partner with CTOs, executives, and senior stakeholders to define technology roadmaps and drive digital transformation across financial services environments.
* Lead engineering teams to deliver complex, multi-stream technology programmes with excellence in architecture, delivery, DevOps, and performance.
* Stay hands-on when required: support POCs, review code, validate designs, and help solve deep technical issues.
* Develop strong business cases that clearly articulate value, ROI, and strategic impact of proposed solutions.
* Guide clients with a consultative, outcomes-focused mindset—translating technical capabilities into business results.
* Build, mentor, and inspire high-performing engineering teams while fostering strong communication, alignment, and accountability.
* Present technology strategies and solution proposals confidently to executive audiences.
About You
* Experienced in engineering leadership within financial services, and have consultant mindset.
* Strong consultative skill set; able to understand client needs, challenge thinking, and shape strategic technology decisions.
* Comfortable working directly with CTOs and C-suite executives.
* Technically strong, with hands-on experience in Python, Java, or similar, and confident rolling up your sleeves when needed.
* Deep understanding of modern engineering practices—cloud, DevOps, microservices, data platforms, application modernisation.
* Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate technical detail for non-technical stakeholders.
* Proven ability to lead distributed teams and deliver large-scale programmes successfully.
Why Join
This is a rare opportunity to operate at the intersection of technology strategy, engineering execution, and business transformation. You’ll drive impactful change across complex organisations while working in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment. Competitive package: £170k–£200k + bonus + benefits, with the autonomy to make a meaningful impact.
