Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to work in our well‑established Children & Young People Services Community Team in South West Surrey. The postholder will be responsible for providing clinical input and leadership to our CYPS Community Team, working alongside a multidisciplinary team in line with New Ways of Working and our i‑THRIVE framework.
Responsibilities
* Provide diagnostic, assessment and treatment service for children and adolescents with mental health problems within a multi‑disciplinary approach to care.
* Promote high‑quality multidisciplinary working and relationships.
* Complete on average 2‑3 monthly assessments as a full‑time consultant.
* Provide a consultant review after 6 weeks of treatment and then every 2‑3 months.
* Participate in an emergency out‑of‑hours rota, providing back‑up for junior doctors and professionals in assessing young people seen in A&E.

* £113,565 – £150,569 per annum + £149 fringe allowance, plus on‑call requirement.

Qualifications and Experience
* MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
* Full medical registration with a licence to practice.
* Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6–12 months of interview/assessment).
* Relevant higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc) and/or other additional clinical qualifications (desirable).
* MRCPsych or equivalent (desirable).
* Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills (desirable).
* Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health guidance and clinical, NHS strategic vision (Next Stage Review).
* Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psychosocial perspective.
* Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
* Experience working with a range of patient groups across community, inpatient and specialist settings.
* Knowledge of psychiatric provision.
* Experience in management (desirable).
* Peer review or research publications, audit projects (desirable).
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
* Take a clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high‑quality care.
* Skills in negotiation with patients, relatives and other professionals where opinions differ.
* Effective communication of complex and clinically sensitive information to patients, families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional audiences (written and oral).
* Ability to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post (desirable).
Eligibility
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of appointment.
* Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment (desirable).
* In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice (desirable).
