Tooling Design Engineer
Pay: £45hr - £50hr (Umbrella)
Location: Ampthill
Contract: 6x Months
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Pattern: 4x Flex (4-day week, Monday–Thursday)
Security Clearance: SC (Required to start)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Tooling Design Engineer to join a world class leading defence company based in Ampthill. This contract role sits within the Operations Engineering team, providing tooling and manufacturing engineering support across the full product lifecycle from concept design and prototype build through to full-rate production and end-of-life support.
You will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of industrial tooling, jigs, fixtures, prototype models, and machine attachments used for both production and experimental applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and development of manufacturing tooling across technologies including NC machining, Composite layup, Mechanical assembly and fabrication.
Full lifecycle CAD design using CREO, from concept through to production release
Management of drawings and documentation via Windchill (PDM)
Creation of Technical Requirement Specifications, Manufacturing BOMs and routings Detailed process instructions.
Production of technical drawings to BS8888, including GD&T and datum structures
Active participation in Level 1 & 2 MDWT (Mission Directed Work Team) meetings
Support capital equipment definition through to acceptanceRequired Skills & Experience
Proven background in tooling design within a manufacturing environment
Broad manufacturing knowledge including: CNC machining, Composites, Fabrication, Additive manufacturing
Strong experience with CREO (3D modelling & technical drawings)
Experience using Windchill or equivalent PDM systems
Solid understanding of GD&T, key characteristics, and datum structures
Practical knowledge of DFM/A and PFMEA
Ability to derive tooling technical requirements from product requirements
Experience producing manufacturing BOMs, routings, and process instructions
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality toolsets
Security Clearance:
