Salary:

Grade F Lecturer - £41,064 - £46,049 per annum

Grade G Lecturer - £47,389 - £56,535 per annum

The Role



Based in the School of Pharmacy you will participate fully in the School’s range of teaching and research activities. You should have experience of teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students and be able to contribute specialist knowledge relevant to clinical pharmacy teaching within a pharmacy provision that complements the growing teaching and research interests of the School. We are particularly interested in attracting individuals who have substantial experience of working within a School of Pharmacy or equivalent industrial experience.



The School of Pharmacy benefits from being an integral part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences with strong teaching and research links to colleagues in medicine, biomedical sciences, dentistry, psychology and chemistry, alongside our three research institutes: the Biosciences Institute (NUBI), the Population and Health Sciences Institute (PHSI) and the Translational and Clinical Research Institute (TCRI).

Key Accountabilities

* To offer specialist expertise in a contemporary area of clinical pharmacy
* To undertake teaching, leadership and supervision duties across a range of the School programmes, initially with a focus on the pharmacology components of the Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) programme
* To supervise placement activities within our partner organisations
* To undertake administrative duties as deemed necessary, including participation in relevant School and Faculty committees and activities
* To participate in external activity related to pharmacy, learning and teaching, and research
* To contribute to the promotion of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy programmes to both current and prospective students
* To act as a personal tutor to a group of students, concerned with students’ academic achievements, and pastoral care
* To contribute to the research strategy of the School and link with other University groups to maximise the income and impact around that work
* To participate in relevant staff development activities
* To undertake other duties, such as participation in School, Faculty and University meetings, as detailed by the Head of School



The Person



Knowledge, Skills and Experience

* Expertise in a contemporary area of clinical pharmacy
* Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
* Ability to work well on own initiative and as part of a team
* Excellent organisational, administrative and planning skills
* Experience of teaching clinical pharmacy at undergraduate and postgraduate level commensurate with career stage
* Specialist knowledge and interest in an area relevant to the clinical pharmacy strand of an MPharm programme
* Track record in publishing in peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with career stage
* Evidence of sucessful research grant acquisition, commensurate with career stage
* Evidence of a coherent research strategy and approriate alignment with School and Faculty priorities

Desirable

* Understanding of current themes and issues in the delivery of accredited MPharm programmes
* Experience of supervision of PhD students to sucessful conclusion, commensurate with career stage
* Understanding and experience in processes involved in academic programme mamangement

Qualifications

* Sustained equivalent clinical experience OR a PhD or Professional Doctorate in Pharmacy or closely related subject
* Registrant of the General Pharmaceutical Council or international registration as a pharmacist
