Your new companyA leading global engineering consultancy is expanding its Building Services team and is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in delivering high-profile, technically complex projects across the UK and internationally. You'll be joining a forward-thinking organisation known for engineering excellence, digital innovation, and a strong commitment to sustainability.Your new roleAs a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead the development of mechanical building services solutions across a diverse project portfolio, including commercial, residential, mission-critical, education, defence, and major infrastructure schemes. You will contribute to concept design, detailed calculations, specifications, reports, and coordinated MEP solutions while guiding more junior engineers and supporting multidisciplinary design teams.Key responsibilities include:
* Leading mechanical design packages from concept to delivery
* Producing calculations, performance specifications, and technical documentation
* Coordinating designs with internal MEP teams and external stakeholders
* Ensuring compliance with industry standards, legislation, and best practices
* Supporting digital workflows including BIM/Revit environments
* Attending design meetings, presenting technical solutions, and managing client relationships
* Mentoring and developing junior team members
* Contributing to bids, fee proposals, and resource planning
What you'll need to succeed
* Extensive mechanical building services design experience at Senior Engineer level
* Strong technical knowledge across HVAC, public health, thermal modelling, sustainable design, and low-carbon technologies
* Proven experience delivering multi-sector projects through all RIBA stages
* Proficiency with design software such as IES, Hevacomp, and relevant digital tools
* Strong communication and leadership skills
* Chartered status (CEng) or working towards chartership is highly advantageous
* A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to influence design outcomes
