Job Description
On a day-to-day basis, you will manage the infrastructure that delivers both self-managed and managed services to our customers in our UK-based server brands.
You should have at least 5 years of recent experience as a Linux/Windows administrator or engineer, specifically within the ISP industry.
This is a fast-paced and varied role requiring a strong candidate, accustomed to responsibility, and able to apply themselves effectively across multiple technologies in different areas of our UK business.
This role can be fully remote (UK-based only, with occasional office travel) or based in our Worcester or Reading offices. Remote candidates should have prior experience with remote working.
Key responsibilities
* Supporting existing platforms, ensuring optimal operation and uptime of systems and services
* Designing and deploying new customer and product solutions
* Documenting solutions and builds to create a knowledge base for other administrators
* Resolving escalated issues and coaching other team members
* Liaising with customers to ensure smooth system operation and planning future requirements
* Occasional travel to offices and data centers
Required skills and experience:
* Strong IT skills in an internet-facing environment
* Experience with Windows Server administration in a hosting environment
* Experience with SQL systems administration, specifically MSSQL Server, MySQL/MariaDB
* Familiarity with web platforms (Umbraco, Magento, WordPress) and their management
* Experience with backup solutions (Veeam, R1soft, Acronis)
* Knowledge of load balancing and high-availability platforms (database replication, load balancing)
* Proficiency with at least one shell scripting language (e.g., Bash, PowerShell)
* Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Salt)
* Understanding of security issues and access control mechanisms
* Experience with change management and policy implementation

Working Hours:
Typically 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday, with shifts. Participation in an on-call rota is required, and hours may be adjusted based on business needs.
