We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacy assistant to join our pharmacy team within the technical services department at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The technical services team is responsible for the ordering, supply checking and distribution of Parenteral Nutrition and Chemotherapy to patients in the trust. You will also participate in dispensary rotations, including late-night and weekend cover.
The role involves working alongside Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists in Technical Services and the wider department to support day-to-day processes and administrative duties, and to participate in the dispensing process for the In-Patient Dispensary. You will use the current pharmacy computer systems and assist with training of Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs), students and other trainees, and participate in pharmacy ward audits across all sites within the Trust.
Responsibilities
* Support the ordering, receipt, dispensing and delivery of Chemotherapy and CIVAS
* Communicate closely with external stock providers
* Actively support and participate in stock management
* Chase outstanding orders and follow up on MCS issues
* Respond to priority and urgent requests
* Communicate any anticipated stock delays to the senior technician
* Support the senior technician with day-to-day processes
* Support the team with administrative duties
* Assist with drug alerts
* Support with medicine safe and secure storage audits
* Participate in the dispensing process for the In-Patient Dispensary
* Efficiently use the current pharmacy computer systems
* Support the training of ATOs, students and other trainees
* Participate in pharmacy ward audits across all sites within the Trust
Qualifications
Essential
* GCSE English
* GCSE Maths
* NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (including dispensing)
Desirable
* Pharmacy Experience
* Knowledge of data protection & patient confidentiality
Skills and Attributes
* Ability to prioritise & carry out routine tasks
* Knowledge of when a problem or issue requires escalation
* Knowledge of Pharmacy Computer Systems
* Previous administrative experience
* Motivated, enthusiastic, trustworthy
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Adaptable to changes in working practice
* An understanding of and the ability to undertake the duties outlined in the job description
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
