Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a patient-centred, progressive, and supportive Gastroenterology department in the Yorkshire and the Humber region. This role offers an excellent chance to develop specialist interests, particularly in Hepatobiliary Endoscopy (ERCP/EUS), while contributing to delivering a high-quality, comprehensive gastroenterology service across multiple hospital sites.
We are a friendly and dynamic team committed to professional development and flexible job planning that supports both patient care and individual career aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform advanced endoscopy procedures, including ERCP and/or EUS.
* Act as a key member of local and regional Upper GI and Hepatobiliary (HPB) cancer MDTs.
* Deliver outpatient care for hepatobiliary, upper GI two-week wait, and general gastrointestinal and gastrological clinics.
* Provide inpatient care on a 1:8 rota on the specialist gastroenterology ward.
* Participate in the GI bleed out-of-hours on-call rota (1:8 basis).
* Supervise and support junior doctors and nursing staff.
* Lead and contribute to sub-specialty service development within gastroenterology.
* Take part in urgent and emergency care duties, ensuring compliance with working time regulations and safe practice standards.
* Actively engage in teaching, leadership roles, and service improvement projects.
* Contribute to General Internal Medicine (GIM) inpatient care on a 1:8 consultant of the week rota (initial commitment of up to 1.5 PAs). This GIM component will be reviewed after two years with the option to step back as new consultants join the team.
* Participate in regular clinical governance, audits, and departmental meetings.
Person Specification
* Complete GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Gastroenterology and General Medicine or within six months of achieving CCT.
* Significant experience in hepatobiliary endoscopy and managing complex GI conditions.
* Ability to supervise junior clinical staff and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team.
* Evidence of effective time management, problem-solving, and clinical leadership skills.
* Experience with EUS and/or advanced hepatobiliary procedures.
* Computer literacy and clinical IT proficiency.
* Higher degree (MD, PhD) or formal teaching qualification.
* Evidence of educational contributions or quality improvement project work.
* Management training or leadership experience.
