Overview
Design Engineer - Contestable at GTC, part of the BUUK Infrastructure Group. Location: Woolpit. Salary: Starting from £39,982. Contract type: Permanent. Posting End Date: 16/09/2025.
BUUK Infrastructure is committed to accelerating the UK towards net zero. GTC is looking for a Design Engineer – Contestable who will help lift customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service.
Responsibilities
* Liaise with clients to understand project requirements and constraints.
* Complete design work in accordance with client requirements and relevant standards (GTC/DNO/Industry).
* Attend meetings with clients, network operators, and other companies as required.
* Ensure compliance with NRSWA procedures.
* Coordinate with other BUUK group departments to ensure safe and efficient project construction.
* Perform technical and safety audits as required.
* Assist in maintaining GTC’s self-approval status with network operators.
* Authorize design work in line with the Delegation of Authority Guidelines.
Experience / Knowledge
* Experience in the design of utilities, preferably in the Power Distribution sector.
* Knowledge of CDM Regulations & Health and Safety legislation.
* Working knowledge of current Legislation, Technical Standards & Specifications and ENA.
* Recommendations relating to GTC electrical networks and awareness of implications for safe management of electrical networks.
* Any other duties as required by the manager.
Abilities / Skills
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical requirements into project drawings.
* Project management skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office or equivalent.
Desirable
* Degree in engineering or equivalent.
* Membership with a recognised engineering institution at Technician grade or equivalent.
* Experience in training others.
* Proven experience of negotiation with third parties.
