Job Description
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and professionalism. Also, directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
A Registered Nurse I (RN I) is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned. An RN I is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee, and the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in PI activities and department initiatives, and engaging in educational activities such as seminars, conferences, workshops, or reading nursing articles. The portfolio must be current and submitted to the Director/Designee annually by March 1st. The RN I routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review, and develops educational materials for staff and patients.
Education
* Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required
* Bachelor's Nursing (BSN) preferred
Certification & Licensure
* RN License required
* BLS Certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider) required
* Relevant Specialty Certification preferred
* Must be licensed or eligible to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, either via multi-state or single-state license
* New hires must have AHA certification prior to orientation completion
Qualifications
* Competent in providing care based on various stages of human growth and development
* Competent in providing care using the nursing process
* Reliable means of hospital communication
* For new or promoted RN I employees: must obtain Eligibility to Test Letter from the Virginia Board of Nursing or equivalent verification
