The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is leading within Government on the response to the Grenfell Tower fire. The Institutional Reform Division is part of Buildings, Resilience & Fire Group and we are responsible for the implementation of a new Single Construction Regulator (SCR). The SCR was the first recommendation of the phase 2 Report of the Independent Inquiry into the tragedy at Grenfell Tower. The recommendation has been accepted by Government and delivery of the recommendation is a priority workstream for Ministers.
This is a key role that will deliver Ministerial priorities in an area where there is high ambition. We want to take this opportunity to go beyond simplifying regulatory institutions and to establish transformational change in the way that the built environment is regulated. We are looking for a candidate with experience in policy development who is comfortable working closely with industry and other stakeholders. We are looking for someone to bring their experience to a high- profile area which will make a tangible difference for the communities that we serve.
The role will be in the regulatory reform team which leads on the implementation of the Single Construction Regulator (SCR).
As the Senior Policy Lead your responsibilities will include:

* progressing the development of policies which will form part of the prospectus and future legislation
* working closely with senior leaders and Ministers providing advice and recommendations which focus on outcomes that make tangible improvements
* working closely with industry, existing regulators and other stakeholders to ensure there is join accountability for the design of the single regulator
* supporting the development and analytical base for the single SCR in preparation for a Business Case
Precise responsibilities will be discussed with the successful candidate but they could include developing the powers/duties and legislative underpinning of the new regulator, how the regulator works with industry and consumers and the organisational design of the regulator.
The Institutional Reform Team is a supportive environment, and the successful candidate should provide visible leadership to the team.
