Job Description

Role Title: Kitchen Operative

Reporting to: Home Manager

Location: Fourways Residential Home, Glen Road, Sidmouth, Devon EX10 8RW

Hours of Work: 9.15 am to 1.15pm and 2.15pm to 6.15 pm 3 day week and 4 day week alternating

NB Hours include working every other weekend

Leave: Pro rata to 5.6 weeks inclusive of public holidays

Purpose of the Role:

To order, prepare, cook and serve safely produced, nutritionally balanced, attractively presented meals to the residents of Fourways Residential Home.

Meals served at Fourways Residential Home are cooked and delivered to the home by the 'Apetito' catering company.

Main Duties:

* To prepare, cook and serve 'Apetito' meals to the residents of Fourways Residential Home (and occasionally others upon request, for example, residents' guests).
* To clear away after meals are served, clean the kitchen and wash up.
* To be responsible for the meals at Fourways Residential Home being served at an appropriate temperature and attractively presented.
* To ensure that the meals which are provided for residents who are on special diets are served to the correct people.
* To meet all Environmental Health Requirements within the catering functions and catering areas of Fourways Residential Home.

Kitchen Operative Main Duties (Continued):

* To be responsible for efficiency, hygiene and safety within the catering functions and catering areas of Fourways Residential Home.
* To undertake occasional baking and serving of fresh cakes and sandwiches.
* To carry out checks on food and drink stocks and provide the Home Manager with a list of food and drink which requires replenishing (in addition to regular ordering of main 'Apetito' foodstuffs).
* To control all food storage areas including refrigerators, freezers and dry goods stores to ensure that there is no unnecessary wastage.
* To check and record the temperatures of refrigerators and freezers daily.
* To carry out daily and weekly cleaning tasks as detailed in the Cleaning Schedule and to ensure that the Deep Cleaning Operative's Schedule is carried out.
* To carry out a Food Analysis twice a year by asking residents about their personal food preferences, their views on the food and drink provided at Fourways and any special diets they require, and to use the information gathered to order the correct food from 'Apetito'.
* To ask residents every day, whether they have enjoyed their meals and, if they haven't, find out why and put things right.
* To record any feedback from the residents and, if any negative comments are received, record any action taken to put things right.
* To keep up-to-date, the document, 'Safer Food, Better Business'.
* To ensure that equipment is used safely and economically and to report any faults or problems to the Home Manager immediately.
* To comply with all Health and Safety requirements especially those in the kitchen and other catering areas.
* Supervise and train other staff in catering duties when requested by the Home Manager.
* Participate in staff meetings and residents' meetings when requested by the Home Manager.
* To follow all of Fourways Residential Home's Policies and Procedures, especially those relating to catering functions.
* To undertake training as may be reasonably required by Fourways Residential Home managers.
* To carry out any other duties, appropriate to the role of Kitchen Operative, that may be required from time to time as directed by the Registered Manager.
