About the Role
We are seeking a hands‑on Health & Safety Advisor to support our operational warehousing and transport activities. This is a site-based, operational role focused on day‑to‑day delivery, compliance, and coaching of line managers. You will play a key part in maintaining and improving our health and safety management system while promoting a positive safety culture across the sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide practical health and safety advice to managers, supervisors, and colleagues across warehouse and transport operations.
* Support risk assessment creation, review, and safe system of work development.
* Lead or assist with incident and near‑miss investigations, identifying root causes and tracking corrective actions.
* Conduct audits, inspections, and workplace tours, reporting findings and following up on actions.
* Maintain and improve H&S procedures, forms, registers, and records.
* Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, briefings, and short training sessions.
* Review contractor RAMS, monitor compliance, and challenge unsafe practices.
* Support safe storage and handling of solar panels, batteries, and other operational risks.
* Provide regular updates to the H&S lead on inspection findings, incidents, and compliance tasks.
* Promote a visible, positive safety culture and elevate significant risks or repeated non‑compliance.
Person Specification
Essential:
* NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Level 3 qualification.
* Experience in operational H&S within warehousing, logistics, distribution, or manufacturing.
* Strong knowledge of risk assessments, inspections, incident investigations, and action tracking.
* Experience advising line managers and monitoring contractor compliance.
* Competence in delivering inductions, toolbox talks, or short training sessions.
* Excellent written communication skills for reports, action logs, and safety communications.
* Organised, resilient, and confident in a visible site‑based role.
* Comfortable constructively challenging unsafe behaviours.
* Must be based in or willing to work from Swindon or Telford, with occasional travel as required.
Desirable:
* Distribution warehouse and transport experience, including yard safety and fleet operations.
* Awareness of ADR / dangerous goods requirements.
* Experience with batteries, solar panels, or higher‑risk stored goods.
* Internal auditing experience and familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar systems.
* Working toward or holding Tech IOSH membership.
