We are looking for individuals with excellent communication, who are enthusiastic, self‑motivated and committed to the provision of a high quality service. You will need to be flexible to work within our maternity teams in all care settings.</p><p>We have an excellent preceptorship programme to support your professional development, alongside a Workforce and Development Team to help you.</p><p>Interviews will consist of a 2 part process. A face‑to‑face assessment on the 3rd July 2026. If candidates are successful they will then be invited to attend a face‑to‑face question based interview on the 7th July 2026. No alternative dates will be offered.</p><p>If shortlisted for assessments please make interviewers aware prior to assessment day if you require any reasonable adjustments.</p><p>Vacancy may close early if high response level received.</p><h3>Main duties of the job</h3><p>To consolidate theory and practice acquired during midwifery training by working in all areas of Maternity Services, rotating from day to night duty.</p><p>To maintain a high standard of midwifery care at all times.</p><p>To acquire additional competencies to fulfil the role of a midwife providing total care to women, and progress to a Band 6 Midwife.</p><h3>Job responsibilities</h3><b>Knowledge, Skills and Experience</b><p>To be a registered midwife with the NMC.</p><p>Where relevant, to have evidence of continued professional development and working towards revalidation.</p><b>Measurable Result Areas</b><p>Abide by legal requirements and statutory rules, relating to practice in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Midwives Rules Midwives Code of Practice and in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and practices.</p><p>To maintain a professional manner at all times, developing the role of the midwife in the best interests of the profession and the client in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.</p><p>To take responsibility for own professional updating in accordance with NMC guidelines and personal requirements supported and facilitated by the Trust.</p><p>To act as a good role model at all times.</p><p>To maintain accurate records.</p><p>To utilise the professional support and information available from Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA).</p><p>To ensure the maintenance of a high standard of midwifery and neonatal care at all times.</p><p>To work within Health and Safety Regulations ensuring both personal and client safety, adhering to Trust Policies at all times.</p><p>To develop competence in all clinical skills, facilitating holistic care to mother and baby within first year of post, i.e., Epidural top‑ups, suturing, administration of IV drugs, Neonatal and Adult Resuscitation.</p><p>To participate in audit/research and communicate these findings to relevant personnel.</p><p>To assist in the setting and monitoring of standards.</p><p>Participating in all aspects of midwifery care, including Health Promotion and Parent craft Education.</p><p>Assisting medical staff and ascertaining medical treatments.</p><p>Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women during assessment and throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.</p><p>To know own limitations and seek advice and support from manager as required.</p><b>Communications and Working Relationships</b><p>To participate in team, professional and personal development activities and promote commitment to continuous development and improvement.</p><p>To participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to agreed set objectives within the preceptorship period.</p><p>To co‑ordinate the clinical activities on the ward.</p><p>To ensure effective communication channels are maintained so that the woman receives optimum care.</p><p>Communicates sensitively and effectively with women, families, colleagues and other members of the multi‑professional team.</p><p>Co‑operating with other units, departments and outside authorities when appropriate.</p><p>Maintaining ward/department stores and equipment and requisition with due economy supplies and repairs and maintenance according to district policy.</p><p>To be aware of and comply with all relevant and locally agreed policies.</p><p>Having an understanding of Risk Management and report risk management issues to appropriate personnel using Trust reporting mechanism.</p><p>To assist in the preparation of off duty rotas.</p><p>To provide a suitable learning environment for students.</p><p>To provide support, supervision and mentorship to learners.</p><p>To work closely with Coventry University to enable students to meet their objectives.
