An opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the small Operations Standards Team, with specific focus on providing support and expertise for GWR operations on depots and in sidings. About the job? This is a new role, which is designed to provide support to the engineering function and the wider business on the development and implementation of competency standards for colleagues who work in operational roles on GWR depots. It is also designed to provide subject-matter expertise for operational matters on depots and sidings. Your main responsibilities will be: Develop and supply subject matter expertise on company operational standards, procedures, and working practices related to operational activities on GWR depots and sidings, as well as other locations as required. This includes associated risk assessment, safety validation, and implementation of the standards into the GWR Safety Management System. Provide support on the production of Depot Operating Instructions, ensuring that such instructions are aligned with national rule book/industry standard requirements, as well as internal GWR standards and procedures such as SMS procedures, Appendix to the Rule Book, Safety Validation. Provide support to the engineering operations team on the delivery of the Competency Management System (CMS) covered in SMS-0801-00/SMS-1801-00 to colleagues who work on GWR engineering depots. This includes being the subject-matter expert on Non-Technical Skills (NTS) in relation to such colleagues. Ensure that company operational standards are applied consistently by the competence assessors through diverse means including the audit of competency records, and where necessary developing and implementing measures to ensure standardisation across the assessors, including through verification activities. You'll need to be: Able to demonstrate experience of working with others to deliver results, through effective relationship-building and communication. Well-versed in GWR and industry operational procedures and processes. Experienced in working to tight deadlines, whilst being an effective decision-maker. Experienced in writing operational documents for a wide variety of different audiences. Experienced in leading teams within a regulated environment. As a minimum, you will need to have: Current shunter competence (or similar depot operational role) with at least three years' experience. IOSH, with recent experience of leading risk assessments. Strong knowledge of the MS Office suite of applications. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills. A strong understanding of how Non-Technical Skills can support and enhance colleague competency. Assessor competency. Verifier competency (desirable). About the location? You will nominally be based in Milford House, but the nature of the role will mean that you will need to be able to attend other locations across the GWR network. Working Pattern?
