Offer description

This is a temporary full time fixed term position until 31 March. This role may be extended, and this will be confirmed during the appointment.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to make a difference and support the delivery of the Council’s groundbreaking Private Rented Sector Access scheme. This new temporary role will support the Senior Private Rented Sector Access Officer to deliver day-to-day operations, working closely with the Council’s Housing Needs Service.

This challenging but rewarding role, will require a positive and flexible attitude, and the drive and passion for delivering innovative housing support solutions to help people in need. You will be supporting the development of trusted relationships with private rented landlords and working with tenants, providing a resettlement service, and a package of one-to-one support to build tenancy skills and create sustainable tenancies.

An understanding of the private rented sector, including landlords and tenants, as well as the support needs of the homeless, is an advantage although not essential as all training will be provided.

Reporting to the Housing Enforcement and Standards Manager this role will hit the ground running. Based within a small team you will be expected to effectively work from your own initiative, managing your own workload with minimal supervision for long periods of time. Experience of administration, communicating with members of the public and partner agencies, and a high degree of competency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word systems is essential.

This is a flexible working role, with the facility to work from the home and the office for three and two days per week respectively. It is based at the Strategic Housing and Regeneration Service, Economic Growth and Skills, at the Wakefield One building in Wakefield city centre and will involve travelling throughout the Wakefield district on a regular basis.

Benefits include:

1. Generous Grade 7 (sp 19-23) salary pro rata
2. Flexible working hours
3. Generous annual leave and flex leave holiday allowance
4. Hybrid working - home and office based
5. Excellent local government pension scheme
6. Training opportunities
7. Discounted and subsidised public transport
8. Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

This is a temporary full time fixed term position until 31 March. The role may be extended beyond this point, and this will be confirmed during the appointment.

A secondment appointment is welcome, and candidates should discuss this with their line manager for approval before applying.

For an informal discussion about this post please contact Jim Goldthorpe, Housing Enforcement and Standards Manager .
