Job Description
Piping Engineer – Nuclear Engineering (Assystem)
📍 Location: Central Glasgow (Hybrid: 2–3 days/week onsite)
🕓 Type: Staff or Umbrella Contractor
Join Assystem’s dynamic, multi‑disciplinary engineering team supporting one of our major clients. As a Piping Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of infrastructure across major operational sites.
Summary of the Role
You’ll work alongside Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, and Building Services Engineers to:
* Develop and maintain Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents
* Manage and assess design changes and concessions
* Present design justifications to nuclear safety committees
* Produce and maintain EIMT (Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing) schedules
* Review and assess Periodic Safety Reviews and technical documentation
* Provide expert technical advice to internal and external stakeholders
* Apply advanced piping and process design principles in a nuclear/high‑hazard environment
Qualifications
Experience
Essential:
* Proven experience as a Piping Engineer in industrial plant and machinery environments
* Strong understanding of British & European design standards and best practices
* Practical experience across concept, detailed design, and construction stages (preferably industrial or maritime projects)
* Skilled in design assessment of plant and equipment to withstand hazards
* Proficient in pipe stress analysis
* Capable of producing robust technical justifications and documentation for design modifications in high‑hazard industries
* Experienced in contributing to multi‑disciplinary engineering projects
Desirable:
* Previous experience in high‑risk or nuclear environments
* Familiarity with HAZID/HAZOP and safety case development
* Experience in the UK nuclear industry, including safety‑related structures, systems & components
* Knowledge of UK and US nuclear regulations, codes, and standards
Qualifications & Training
Essential:
* Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
* Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience
* Willingness to complete a Nuclear Introductory Course within 6 months (if from a non‑nuclear background)
Desirable:
* Engineering Degree (BEng/MEng)
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
Additional Information
Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will require Security clearance. To gain this they must be a Sole UK national.
