Responsibilities and duties of the Health and Safety Manager role Reporting to the Project Director you will: Provide leadership and accountability for health, safety and wellbeing performance across the project. Establish and promote best practice in safety, health and sustainability across all site activities. Advise and support Directors, Managers and Supervisors in fulfilling their health and safety responsibilities in line with legislation and company procedures. Ensure management controls and processes are in place so personnel understand their statutory duties. Work closely with site management teams to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Conduct site inspections, audits and surveillance activities to monitor safe working practices and recommend improvements. Lead and support accident and incident investigations, analysing data and implementing measures to prevent recurrence. Manage and review health and safety performance data, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement. Develop and deliver health and safety campaigns, lessons learned sessions and improvement initiatives. Support the preparation and review of health and safety plans, procedures and method statements, including those from third-party contractors. Maintain records and documentation to ensure compliance with legislation, company procedures and contract requirements. Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following: IOSH qualification and current professional membership. SMSTS or SSSTS certification. Demonstrated experience in a Health & Safety leadership role, ideally within construction, engineering, or major infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, compliance standards, and safety management systems.
