Overview
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Highways Maintenance Operative/Bridge Operative to join our Severn Bridges Inspection and Maintenance (SBIM) contract in Bristol, working on the Severn Bridge. This role is onsite. The SBIM contract delivers the inspection and maintenance programme on behalf of National Highways, offering a chance to learn about quality in the specialist structures industry.
Highway Maintenance Operative plays an important part in all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civils’ works, litter picking, etc. Undertake Winter and emergency call out and standby. The standard hours of work are 37.5 per week + overtime available, and an optional callout rota.
What You’ll Do
* Attend project and work briefings as required.
* Drive/operate vehicles/plant requiring general and specialist skills including vehicle checks, routine maintenance (e.g., oil and water checks) and cleaning.
* Carry out all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civil works, litter picking, painting, blasting, concrete works and road works, etc.
* Winter maintenance operations.
* Emergency call out operations.
* Take responsibility for the safety of yourself and others within your team to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and safe operation to protect members of the public.
* Carry out vehicle checks prior to shift starting and correctly fill in defect books.
* Allocation and capturing time and resource utilisation in line with the operated allocation system.
* Maintain records, complete required paperwork, and communicate with Amey staff, subcontractors, emergency services, police, public, clients, and customers.
* Gantry driving.
